What qualifications can I get in Marina Cambrils?
If you are interested in recreational sailing with family or friends, there are several qualifications that you can obtain depending on the length of the boat and the distance from the coast to which you want to sail. Here is a summary of the available qualifications:
Navigation License (LN)
- Ideal for beginners with no previous experience.
- Allows you to operate motorboats and sailboats up to 6 meters in length, as well as jet skis.
- Allows you to navigate up to 2 miles from a port, marina or refuge.
- Daytime navigation for those over 18 years of age (16 with parental authorization).
Basic Navigation License (PNB)
- Suitable for weekend sailing, coastal crossings and night navigation.
- Authorizes the handling of motor boats up to 8 meters and sailboats up to 8 meters.
- Jet skis without power restrictions.
- Allows you to navigate up to 5 miles from a port, marina or refuge.
- Available for persons over 18 years of age (16 with parental authorization).
Recreational Boats Skipper (PER)
- Ideal for coastal navigation, including trips to the Balearic Islands.
- It also offers the possibility of “professional attributions”.
- Allows the operation of motor boats up to 15 meters, sailboats up to 15 meters and jet skis.
- It allows navigation up to 12 miles from the coast.
- Day and night navigation for those over 18 years of age.
Yacht Skipper (PY)
- Requires previous PER qualification.
- Allows longer trips, such as to Sardinia or the Canary Islands.
- Allows the handling of motor boats up to 24 meters, sailboats up to 24 meters and jet skis.
- Allows sailing up to 150 miles from the coast.
- Day and night navigation for those over 18 years old.
Yacht Captain (CY)
- Requires previous PY qualification.
- The highest qualification, which grants the ability to sail around the world.
- No restrictions on boat length, jet ski power or sailing distance.
- Day and night navigation for people over 18 years old.
How to obtain these qualifications?
- All courses and training are available at the academy of Marina Cambrils with our operator GESEMAR.
- For some qualifications short range radio operator courses are required.
- The hours of practical training vary depending on the qualification.
- Official exams and psycho-physical examination are part of the certification process.
- Renewal may be required every 10 years (or every 5 years for those over 70 years of age), which involves a psychophysical evaluation without the need for re-examination.
Other details to keep in mind:
- The navigation practices required for some qualifications are unique and valid for all subsequent certifications.
- The specific navigation practices performed for the PNB are not required again for higher qualifications.
- A psychophysical examination is required periodically for the renewal of the certification.
